Perplexity Now Connects to Your Google Drive — Here's Why That Matters

As a freelance language professional, your work lives in documents. Contracts, glossaries, client briefs, style guides, translation memories in spreadsheet form. Spread across folders you've been meaning to organise since 2021.

Perplexity just made that pile a lot more useful.

They've launched a Google Drive Connector that lets you search your Drive files directly inside Perplexity. Not in a new tab. Not by opening Drive, scrolling, and hoping you remember what you called that file. Right inside your Perplexity search.

What it actually does

Once you connect your Google account, Perplexity can search across your Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and more, alongside web results. If you regularly proofread AI content before sending it to clients, you can store those checklists and style guides in Drive and pull them up instantly. You can ask things like:

"What did the client brief say about tone of voice for that fintech project?"

"Summarise my glossary for healthcare terminology."

"Find the rate card I sent to the agency last quarter."

It pulls from your files and the web at the same time. One answer, one place.

For freelancers, this is actually a big deal

Think about how often you switch context during a working day. You're mid-translation, you need to check a previous project file, you open Drive, you search, you find three files with similar names, you open the wrong one. Ten minutes gone, and your train of thought with it.

With this set up properly, Perplexity becomes something closer to a personal assistant who knows your files. Not just the web. That kind of setup makes a real difference when you're juggling multiple clients and deadlines at the same time.

How to get started

It takes about two minutes. Go to Settings, then Connectors, find Google Drive, click Enable, and log in with Google. That's it. You can also sync specific folders or files to a Space if you want to keep project work separate from everything else.

Full details on how it works, including privacy settings and supported file types, are explained clearly in Perplexity's own documentation.

One thing to know

The connector is available on Pro and Max plans. High-precision search (deeper document analysis) is Enterprise only. For most freelancers, the standard search is more than enough.

If your workflow involves a lot of documents, and whose doesn't, this is worth five minutes of your time.
